Doctors reacted furiously today after the Royal Surrey County Hospital reportedly told them not to dissent during a visit from Jeremy Hunt. The Secretary of State for Health, visited the Royal Surrey in Guildford to officially launch a new urology centre.
The warnings supposedly told doctors that protesting would spoil “an important day for the hospital,”, prompting one online commenter to suggest that the Royal Surrey cared more about Mr Hunt’s opinion than the welfare of its employees.
This comes on the back of emails sent to at least 5 medical schools that many students felt were intimidatory and heavy-handed. The Medical Schools Council has since issued a statement that describes how the emails were sent. The statement also says: “There was no suggestion that the students should not comment on the contract proposals.”
The Royal Surrey County Hospital was contacted about this story but has yet to offer comment.
